The Deacon’s Helpers

“What? Do I smell smoke?” Elizabeth sat up in bed when she heard Father open Jake’s bedroom door.

“Jake, where are you?” Father called loudly.

“Here in the closet. Oh, Mr. Stutzman! I’m so sorry. So sorry for the mess,” Jake gasped heavily.

The Deacon’s Helpers is told from the perspective of little Elizabeth. Her father was ordained deacon for their church and becomes very busy with church work. The children become his helpers. Together they encounter both special and surprising experiences.
